B4Restore and CataCap enter partnership to accelerate growth

CataCap acquires a majority stake in B4Restore, a provider of critical solutions within data protection, business continuity and operational resilience. Together with the current owners, CataCap will strengthen the company’s position in a market shaped by rising cyber threats, tighter regulation and growing demands for documented recovery of critical data and systems.

CataCap has acquired the majority of the Danish Data Protection-as-a-Service provider B4Restore. The company’s current management continues, and together with CataCap they will accelerate growth and further develop the company’s position as one of the leading players within secure, compliant and documentable data protection.

The investment comes at a time when the requirements for data protection are changing significantly. For companies, simply having a backup of critical data is no longer enough. Customers and authorities increasingly expect organisations to be able to document their ability to recover data, restore critical systems and maintain operations when unforeseen incidents occur.

For more than 20 years, B4Restore has built its business around exactly this challenge. The company delivers backup, storage and business continuity as subscription- and consumptionbased services from its own Danish data centres. The solutions are built for hybrid and complex IT environments, where security, governance, separation of duties, compliance and documented recovery capability are essential.

Customers include both larger enterprises and managed service providers (MSPs) that utilise B4Restore’s platform and capabilities as the foundation for their own data protection and continuity services. Through many years of working with both MSPs and enterprise customers, B4Restore has established a strong market position and built long-lasting customer and partner relationships.

A central component of the company’s platform is the in-house developed B4R Storage Portal, which supports automation, governance, documentation and reporting across customers and services at scale. Together, the solutions underpin what B4Restore describes as Operational Assurance – the ability to demonstrably maintain or resume critical business processes when disruptions occur.

B4Restore has been on an impressive growth journey in recent years, underpinned by a clear strategy focused on the MSP segment and a market with a growing and business-critical demand. Today, data protection is not only about securing data, but increasingly about being able to document that critical systems and business processes can be restored when something goes wrong. B4Restore has built the technology, the capabilities and the strong customer relationships around exactly this challenge for over 20 years. We see significant potential to develop the company further from this strong starting point together with management,” says Rasmus Lokvig, Partner at CataCap.

The market for data protection is growing rapidly, driven by an increasing level of cyber threats, growing data volumes, rising IT complexity and regulation such as NIS2 and DORA. Simultaneously, focus has shifted from only protecting data to being able to document operational resilience, recovery capability and compliance with requirements from customers, boards and authorities.

We have built B4Restore based on one simple principle: protecting data is not enough. Our customers need to be able to trust that they can get their data, their systems and their business back up and running when the need arises. With CataCap, we gain a partner who understands both the foundation we have built and the direction the market is moving in. That gives us a stronger basis for investing in our people, our platform and the services that create value for customers and partners,” says Henrik Lind, CEO of B4Restore.

B4Restore was founded in 2003 by Henrik and Vivi Lind, who continue in their current roles as CEO and Executive Vice President respectively. They will continue to own a significant share of the company alongside CataCap.

The investment in B4Restore is the fifth investment in CataCap Fund III, which focuses on developing mid-sized companies with significant growth and development potential.
